Why is membership with the Indiana Chamber so valuable?
We're right there trying to pass as much pro-jobs, pro-economy legislation as possible for any issues that impact a business' bottom line, and we're trying to stop the nasty stuff - the anti-employer legislation.
On top of that, there are a variety of services we offer that are included in a company's membership. They can receive discounts on publications and seminars, utilize our confidential helplines (topics include human resources, OSHA, taxes and more) and access our Business Research Center.
Describe the importance of one-on-one conversations with members.
We find out what the hot buttons are with their organizations and what the best use of their membership is so we can give them an excellent return on investment.
I want them to feel like they're my only member and that I'm at their beck and call. Membership is a discretionary item, so we have to pride ourselves on customer service.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
If cost wasn't an issue, here in the United States, I would pick Chicago, New York or Vegas (it's the vibe). Overseas, it would be hard not to pick anywhere in Italy.
What part of the state do you cover for current members/renewals?
I deal with businesses located in Central Indiana - excluding Marion and Hamilton counties - and Northern Indiana. That's roughly 2,300 members. Every industry is out there.
You are one of the leaders of the Chamber's wellness committee. How does wellness play a role in your life outside of work?
Your health impacts every part of your life. I've run 13 marathons. It's the goal-oriented nature of the competition with yourself that appeals to me. There are going to be times when you're going to have adversity in every race. It's about getting yourself through that adversity and making it to the finish line.
