What attracted you to Indiana INTERNnet?
I was very excited when I learned about the position with Indiana INTERNnet because I had been working in the Indianapolis non-profit sector for nearly 15 years and welcomed the opportunity to work with employers throughout the state with their internship programs. Additionally, I understood the value of internships to a student’s learning and career preparation, and wanted to further the accomplishments of the organization in its first 10 years.

What is your role with EARN Indiana?
EARN (Employment Aid Readiness Network) Indiana is a program of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education that provides state matching funds to employers hiring students with financial need. Indiana INTERNnet’s role is to be a partner in promoting the program and helping facilitate matches between employers and qualified interns. Additionally, we worked closely with the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education to support House Bill 1312, which expands the program to for-profit employers.

How did your work with the Arts Council of Indianapolis prepare you for your current position?
My work with the Arts Council of Indianapolis, as well as with The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, enabled me to watch and observe how boards and executive directors in non-profit organizations function. Both organizations are well-run non-profits with active boards, so working close with the leadership provided me the opportunity to learn how effective non-profits run.

How are you still involved in the arts community?
I appreciate the arts. I regularly attend gallery openings, museum events, theater and musical productions, and art fairs. Indiana INTERNnet launched a program to engage interns in cultural activities in the community in the summer of 2012 and I hope to continue a similar program in the future.

What is your favorite style of artwork?
I really like abstract art, an art form I haven’t always appreciated. I enjoy viewing it and developing my own interpretation of the work.
