What types of duties do you perform as accounting manager?
As far as accounts receivables, I process invoice adjustments, refunds and miscellaneous billings. For accounts payables, I review and code payables for check run processing, and prepare and submit all state and federal lobbying reports. In addition, I handle checkbook transactions and bank reconciliations for IBRG (Indiana Business for Responsive Government, the Chamber’s political action committee), the federal PAC (political action committee) and Hoosier Voices for I-69 (a public advocacy organization supporting the expansion of Interstate 69).

I also supervise Cynthia Robertson, our accounting clerk, and do anything else that Darla Barnett, our chief financial officer, may assign to me in terms of financials.

How do you handle the stress that comes with your job?
Being a mother of three sons, I’ve learned great patience.

Describe your role as chair of the Chamber’s Fun Committee.
I plan the different events we have. I like getting different suggestions from staff and making them feel like their ideas are being considered.

(In terms of past events), I liked going out to the track (Indianapolis Motor Speedway) when we had lunch and spent the day. I also enjoy the annual Indians baseball outings.

You celebrated your 15th anniversary with the Chamber on August 31. How has your role changed throughout the years?
I started out as the accounting clerk. After five years, I was promoted to accounting manager. With that, I took on more responsibilities. I’ve gone through two software program changes as far as accounts receivables are concerned and I’m getting myself “geeked” for a new e-commerce product we’ll be implementing to better serve our customers.

One of the things I enjoy about working at the Chamber – whether it’s handing out paychecks or being on the Fun Committee – is that I feel like I have interaction with just about everybody on staff.

What is one of your special holiday traditions?
I prepare Thanksgiving dinner the night before for my sons and their families. I want them to be able to spend time with other family members on Thanksgiving Day, so we celebrate the night before.

Home renovation is one of your hobbies. Any memorable projects to share?
We gutted my whole bathroom and redid everything. It’s been nicknamed the Taj Mahal.
