Human resources professionals often spend a lot of time “putting out fires,” but they don’t have to tackle them alone.
Elkhart Brass Manufacturing Company, a leading producer of firefighting and fire protection equipment, helps employees hone their skills through training opportunities offered by the Chamber. Established in 1902, Elkhart Brass’ workforce includes more than 200 associates.
Director of Human Resources Lisa Gee regularly attends the annual Human Resources Conference & Expo.
“The leadership development content has probably been some of the most impactful I gain or seek out at each conference,” she comments. “It’s practical information you can take back and implement at your business.”
Gee participated in a focus group with other past attendees regarding ways to enhance the event. “We had an excellent discussion. Great ideas were shared and we were really listened to,” she recalls.
The Chamber aptly balances entertainment and education, she says, particularly in comparison to some of the programs offered by other providers.
“I’m not looking for a vacation from my job. … I want to make it worth my time, so when I go back (to the office), I’m that much more effective.”
