The human resources (HR) landscape is ever changing. Connie Pulliam, human resources manager at GEO Foundation, says her organization’s Chamber membership has allowed her to stay on top of all the laws and information she needs to oversee HR.
Pulliam has worked with GEO Foundation for 15 years, 10 in her current position. She is responsible for HR functions across three states – Indiana, Louisiana and Colorado. GEO Foundation is an educational nonprofit that creates charter schools and supports school choice. Pulliam received her HR Compliance Specialist Certificate through the Chamber.
“(Receiving my certification) was professionally a good opportunity for me, but also I thought it would be beneficial to our organization because we serve other schools,” Pulliam explains. “They know if we had that certification, we were staying on top of laws.”
Pulliam also attends various seminars and conferences through the Chamber, most notably the annual HR conference, and uses the Chamber’s HR Helpline two or three times a year when she needs research assistance on legal situations.
“The HR conference is excellent,” she says. “It is a time where you can focus on specific needs of your organization ... and get the valuable help you need. They always bring professionals to the table.”
Pulliam’s experience with the Chamber and HR certification has allowed her to constantly re-educate herself on HR laws and policies, as well as helping with career advancement and credibility, she confirms.
“I’ve enjoyed every single thing I have done through the Chamber,” Pulliam states. “They have been a tremendous support to me.”
