(INDIANAPOLIS) -- The Indiana Chamber's Annual Awards Dinner is always a time to recognize business and government leaders, as well as the Community of the Year. But the 2013 edition also will be an opportunity to honor the military and Hoosier companies that work closely with these heroes who serve the United States.

This special salute to servicemen and women takes place November 12, the day after Veteran's Day, at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis. Event start time is 5 p.m. for the reception and 6:30 p.m. for the dinner. This is the largest gathering of business, community and government leaders in the state.

Special tributes are planned along with a presentation from Gen. Stan McChrystal. The retired four-star general led the top secret Joint Special Operations Command in Iraq during the Persian Gulf wars and was the chief commander of American forces in Afghanistan. McChrystal will share some of his battle lessons and experiences along with best practices for organizational leadership that also hold true for business.

McChrystal says at the top of his list of what he hopes the public understands about the military is the nature of the life: "It's not the only vocation that challenges families, but in reality there are repeated and extended separations. There is the idea of physical danger. There is also the moving around; not only the country but the world. It is fairly unique and it asks an awful lot, not only of the service member but of their entire family."

Leading up to the Indiana Chamber's 24th Annual Awards dinner, the organization is seeking out Hoosier companies with a tie to the military, whether it's supporting employees who serve or the business has actual defense contracts. Businesses involved with the military should visit www.indianachamber.com/military in order to be recognized at the November event.

Companies also can honor service personnel by sponsoring a table (www.indianachamber.com/ad) for local military members.

The annual dinner is presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Ivy Tech Community College is the speaker sponsor, and Hirons Advertising + Public Relations is the speaker reception sponsor.

Tables of 10 are $2,250 for gold seating, $1,650 for silver seating and $1,200 for standard seating. Individual tickets are $120 each. Tickets can be purchased online (www.indianachamber.com/specialevents) or by calling (800) 824-6885.
