(INDIANAPOLIS) — Paying employees and tracking hours might sound easy enough, but there are a number of federal and states laws that companies must adhere to in order to stay in compliance and avoid costly fines and lawsuits.

To assist Hoosier companies, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Indiana Wage and Hour Law Seminar on July 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Indiana Chamber Conference Center in downtown Indianapolis

Presented by Ice Miller LLP, the seminar will cover a range of wage- and hour-related topics, including the calculation of overtime, equal pay and child labor laws, coverage and exemptions, compensable working time and payment of wages.

“Often times, employers do not realize what kinds of penalties they face, or, in some cases, do not realize that they are violating regulations,” says Mike Ripley, Indiana Chamber of Commerce vice president of health care policy and employment law.

“This seminar is designed to educate employers on the most effective ways to address the requirements of both the federal and the Indiana wage and hour laws.”

Lunch is provided at the seminar; cost to attend is $299 for Indiana Chamber members and $329 for non-members. Group discounts are available. The seminar is good for one credit toward the completion of the Human Resource Specialist Certificate. Other HR and professional development credits are available.

Also this month is the Supervising and Managing People Workshop on July 30-31.This two-day workshop, presented by FlashPoint, covers information needed to be a successful manager for new supervisors and those seeking a refresher course. Among the topics: your role as a supervisor and manager, delivering performance feedback, creating a results-driven environment and engaging your team. Location: Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Airport. Cost is $599 for Indiana Chamber members and $699 for non-members.

Group discounts are available for both events. For more information or to register, visit www.indianachamber.com/conferences or call (800) 824-6885 or (317) 264-6885.
