Describe one of your most memorable jobs.
I worked for an insurance company taking claims after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The call center was here in Indianapolis. I took people's information about what had happened to them during and after the hurricanes. It was very humbling.
What are the Chamber's top-selling publications?
The Employment Law Handbook (it covers a variety of topics such as hiring and firing, wage and hour, workers' compensation and unemployment issues as well as recordkeeping requirements) and Model Employee Policies for Indiana Employers (in today's world, you have to have things in writing to cover yourself. The publication helps protect companies and their employees.) Our labor law posters also are a big benefit to our employers.
Share a few of your hobbies.
Watching sports and going to sporting events - basketball is by far my favorite. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, and playing cards and board games.
Tell us about the types of businesses you interact with.
It runs the gamut. I speak with larger businesses and I talk with small, mom and pop stores. Companies of any size can benefit from our products. And it's not just HR-related topics; we have books on taxes, health and safety, and the environment.
Our publications touch so many different aspects of business life. For our members, using these resources along with our free Helplines can make a world of difference.
